Get lost in some music

Posted by Chelsea W.
For me, lately, for personal reasons and also because of the stop-and-go-and-stop-again nature of the seasonal shift currently in motion, I’ve re-realized how fun it is to just get sort of lost sometimes. Take a break from the mundane and boring routines of day-to-day life and lose yourself in some music — I highly recommend it. And, of course, you can check out these CDs at SPL!

Purity Ring CD coverPurity Ring, Shrines

“You must be hovering over yourself.” (from “Lofticries”)

There’s something about every song on this album that feels less like a musical composition and more like a phenomenon. The swelling synths, the nearly fleeting vocals, the frenetic beats… It feels like a combination of forces and elements. Like a lucky moment. It’s almost fantasy. Lean back and enjoy it!

“My reality could never live up (could never live up) to the fantasy.” (from “Fantasy”)

I like to think the album cover gives it away a little bit: It’s the party, after things have gotten a bit messy. It’s fun colored with darkness. It’s fantastic. Like they say in “Bones,” “these are hard times for dreamers.” But MS MR have come to help. Escape with them!

Visions CD by Grimes Grimes, Visions

“See you on a dark night.” (from “Oblivion”)

One thing that Claire Boucher knows how to do is create an atmosphere, and it’s electric. My favorite way to listen to this album is with my headphones on, taking a walk after dark. It’s hard to explain how this music just makes me so happy when I listen to it. It just does. It is like a dream.
