Rainier Beach Branch to Close June 4 through June 26
The Rainier Beach Branch will be closed Thursday, June 4, through Friday, June 26, while necessary repairs and energy efficiency improvements are made to the branch HVAC system. During construction, the branch book return and pickup lockers will be closed and the parking lot will be inaccessible. The branch will reopen as scheduled on Saturday, June 27.
Beginning Wednesday, May 27, the Rainier Beach Branch and its pickup lockers will be temporarily removed as available holds locations. Patrons will be able to select them again once the branch reopens on June 27.
Patrons can pick up any holds inside the Rainier Beach Branch or its outside pickup lockers through June 3. Holds that have not been picked up by 8 p.m. on June 3 will remain at the branch, but will be unavailable for pickup until the branch reopens on June 27.
When the branch reopens, holds that had been unavailable during the closure will again be available for pickup on the holds shelf inside the branch during open hours. All patron holds at the Rainier Beach Branch that are set to expire during the closure will be extended until July 3 so patrons have additional time to retrieve them.
Library staff are available during open hours at all branches to help patrons manage their holds or select alternate pickup locations. Patrons can also reach out through Ask Us or call 206-386-4636.
About the Project
The Rainier Beach Branch HVAC system is nearing the end of its expected use and needs to be replaced to ensure reliable heating and air conditioning, and effective ventilation, for the safety and comfort of patrons and staff. Due to the nature of the work and the interior renovations required, it is necessary to close the branch for the duration of the project.
The Rainier Beach Branch closed briefly in March for the first phase of this project, which involved installing a new, main HVAC unit on the roof. During this second phase of the project, six additional rooftop HVAC units will be replaced and a new energy recovery ventilator will be installed, which will significantly increase HVAC energy efficiency and extend its useful life. We appreciate your patience and continued support while we complete this project, and we apologize for any inconvenience.
