Think of it: the nerdy erudition of your neighborhood library, crossed with the convivial bonhomie of your local pub. That’s Booktoberfest, now in its fifth year! Trivia, karaoke, happy hours, all with a bookish twist. Storytimes, art class, and literary readings, all in bars! Come out and celebrate the season with us. Here’s what’s in store:

TRIVIA TRILOGY. Back once more by popular demand, our popular trilogy of bookish trivia events. Folks, listen: every year there’s always a team of librarians who take the grand prize. Will it happen again this year? Teach these smarty pants a lesson! You have three chances:
- LIBRARYOKE. You know: Karaoke + Librarians. Back again for the third year running: songs about books especially encouraged. Featuring the fabulous Baby Ketten: check out their song catalog here. This event is on Wednesday, October 16, 7 p.m. – midnight at The Royal Room in Columbia City (Facebook event). We know what’s going to be popular this year…
- SCARY STORIES AND POEMS. ‘Ales from the Crypt, our chilling evening of scary tales in bars, returns this year in three venues:

- Late Night Tales at the Library, 8:05 p.m. Capitol Hill Branch
- DRINK & DRAW. The City as Character: an evening of cartooning instruction and drinks with Myra Lara, Wednesday Oct. 23, 6:30 at Populuxe Brewery in Ballard.
- HALLOWE’EN HORROR MOVIE MARATHON. Because why not? Hide out from the trick or treaters at the Central Library, as we enjoy four classics (brief intermissions between):
- 3 p.m. Bucket of Blood (1959, 66 min)
- 4:30 p.m. Little Shop of Horrors (1960, 72 min)
- 6 p.m. Carnival of Souls (1962, 78 min)
- 7:30 p.m. Night of the Living Dead (1968, 96 min)
…so shamble on in for spooky flicks and Hallowe’en treats!
