For the Dads

There are lots of feelings for people around Father’s Day – for me having lost my dad six years ago I can find it a little hard emotionally, but there is also a new way for me to celebrate this day and that’s for my husband and son. Rather then focus too much on dad themed stuff to buy I decided to get a few books from the library for bedtime with dad this weekend.

A Father’s Love by Hannan Holt, illustrated by Yee Von Chan and Wild About Dads by Diana Murray, illustrated by Amber Alvarez –  Focusing on the animal kingdom, these two books highlight and celebrate fatherhood showing its many forms of love. They also both give us more in-depth information at the end of the story about the animals themselves.

Some Daddies by Carol Gordon Ekster, illustrated by Javiera Mac-lean Alvarez – Shows the beautiful and diverse world of fathers. No two daddies are the same and they all show their children love in many different ways. Some read, some play, and some give the best hugs. It’s a fun read that is wonderfully illustrated and perfect for modern fatherhood.

You Made Me a Dad by Laurenne Sala, illustrated by Mike Malbrough – This was one of the books that captured my husband’s way of being a father so well that I had to grab it. From the anticipation of our son’s arrival to all the adventures they’ve had and those still yet to come.  All the feels!

Three Squeezes by Jason Pratt, illustrated by Chris Sheban – I had to throw in a tear jerker and this one is it. Gave me the same kind of feelings as the classic children’s book Love You Forever by  Robert Munsch, but from a father’s perspective. From fatherhood to the ups and downs of adolescents to watching your child become an adult (and father) themselves.

I hope you all have a gentle Father’s Day.
