By popular demand, Seattle Public Library is excited to announce a fall series of workshops about understanding AI, in partnership with the AI Safety Awareness Project. The AI Safety Awareness Project is a volunteer organization dedicated to raising awareness about modern AI, highlighting its benefits and risks, and informing the public on how they can contribute to AI safety.
We are offering an older adult-focused workshop at various library locations throughout the fall. No prior experience or knowledge of AI is required – everyone is welcome to come and learn together!
Understanding AI Workshops:
- Monday, October 20th from 4:00-5:00 pm at Lake City Branch (**Note: This program has been canceled.)
- Tuesday, November 4th from 6:00-7:00 pm at Green Lake Branch
- Monday, November 10th from 12:00-1:00 pm at Douglass-Truth Branch
- Friday, November 14th from 2:00-3:00 pm at Queen Anne Branch
Join us for these informative sessions and gain a better understanding of artificial intelligence and its impact on our world.
And for those who like to study outside of class, here is some recommended reading from the AI Safety Awareness Project:

This research paper, written in narrative format, explores how the fast development of highly capable of AI might affect our society.
Atlas of AI: Power, Politics, and the Planetary Costs of Artificial Intelligence by Kate Crawford
This is another good intro book that delves into the short term harm/risk landscape, and how we might be able to still change direction of where AI is headed.
