Tuesday, April 21 was an especially fun day at the Central Library. King 5’s Evening Magazine spent a few hours at the Library filming a story in honor of National Library Week.
Host (and Almost Live alum) Chris Cashman interviewed our head of Library Experience and Engagement Kai Tang, visited the art gallery and music practice rooms on Level 8, admired the views from Level 10, picked up a coffee at Howdy Y’all cafe on Level 3, counted the 13 shades of red on Level 4, imagined cleaning the building’s 10,000 windows, and picked some Peak Picks.
The result is this fun segment that aired on last night’s Evening Magazine. Watch the first 2.5 minutes for a deep dive on the Central Library, and skip ahead to 9:49 for some quick book picks.

This theme for National Library Week this year is “Find Your Library Joy,” and that seemed just about right.
To show he was serious about celebrating libraries, Chris also applied some SPL temporary tattoos, which are available at every location starting this week (see above). Grab some for yourself!

The South Seattle Emerald also covered National Library Week with a lovely article profiling seven south-end library workers, including six from SPL. They talked about their journey into library work and how they connect to patrons. They also highlighted branch-specific programs such as the Beacon Hill Branch’s business help program, Denkyem’s CoLab; and the annual Dia de los Niños/Dia de los Libros celebration at the South Park Branch on April 28.
We also wanted to shout-out our wonderful library staff. Our patrons tell us literally every day about the difference that our staff make in their lives: helping them access materials and information, connect to resources, and be part of community. Thank you, and happy Library Week!
Don’t forget to pick up your SPL temporary tattoos, and find many more resources on our new Meet Me Here page.
