On May 7th the Central Library is hosting a special preview of a PBS documentary, Depression: Out of the Shadows, followed by a panel discussion focusing on at-risk youth.
One out of four young adults will experience a depressive
episode by age 24. How does depression impact at risk youth? DEPRESSION: Out of the Shadows, a PBS documentary premiering nationwide on May 21, 2008, at 9 p.m. on KCTS, navigates the disease’s complex terrain, highlighting the latest scientific research and innovative treatments. Depression is also explored through the voices of families and individuals coping with its wide-ranging effects, offering greater awareness and diminished stigma around a disorder that ultimately touches everyone.
The event is held on Wednesday, May 7th, 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Microsoft Auditorium. The speakers are DaShaun “Jiwe” Morris, who just published the book, War of the Bloods in my veins : a street soldier’s march toward redemption and his mentor, Terrie Williams, author of Black Pain: It Just Looks Like We’re Not Hurting.
