Book review: Madhouse by Rob Thurman

The boys are back in Rob Thurman’s Madhouse, a story that combines action, sharp humor, and a seriously creepy bad guy. When Niko and Cal Leandros take a job tracking down a few lost artifacts for a museum, they have no idea how dangerous things are going to get.

Rob Thurman has a real gift for turning fairly innocuous mythical creatures into skin crawling monsters, but Sawney Beane, the cannibalistic serial killer in Madhouse, takes things to a whole new level. Part of the thrill is seeing the danger through the eyes of smart-mouthed, pseudo-monster Cal. As he gets freaked out, you get freaked out, and since he spends a good chunk of the novel freaking out… Well, you get the idea. This is the third book in the series, and the first two, Nightlife and Moonshine, are also highly recommended.
