Watching the Weather with Cliff Mass

Normally we don’t write about new books that are already slammed with holds and Cliff Mass’ new book, The Weather of the Pacific Northwest, certainly fits that description with over 300 holds on it already.

But the weather outside is frightful…well, at least unusual. Since I’ve been glued to his weather blog over the weekend, I thought you might enjoy reading it while you’re waiting for his book or for the streets to clear. Professor Cliff Mass works at U-Dub, is a regular on KUOW and his blog is perfect reading for this wild winter weather we’re having.

  1. Thanks for posting this, Carol! My hold came in last week.
Chapter 4 discusses the history of local snowstorms and icestorms, with a detailed look at how a few of our most recent bad storms formed. Great book.

  2. I have heard that expert on KUOW and didn’t realize he had a blog. Here I have been looking at about five weather websites, all of which offer different predictions, trying to figure out who is the best judge of what’s coming — now I’ll start with his blog and then look at a weather site or two!

  3. Since I wish to escape Seattle via the airport on Friday I have been watching the weather closely. I had no idea Cliff had a blog! I am now looking at it and watching the weather more closely.

By the way, I know Cliff because our younger boys went to school together, and played on the same little league baseball team (though I was delighted when my younger son told me after 3rd grade that baseball was not for him!… though you will find him teaching swimming at a public pool). So I have commented on his blog a couple of times (being careful to not use the names of his family members, I know the internet is a bizarre place!).

Oh, wow… my anti-spam word was “ikea”… but my book shelves came from Dania!

  4. Cliff was the only voice of sanity last weekend. My Mother and I had dueling weather predictions going – hers from the National Weather Service as filtered through KOMO and mine from Cliff’s blog. Guess who came the closest to our reality.

  5. I love his blog, and just came to it last week during the snow. I’ve also always loved hearing him on KUOW. Weather is exciting stuff …
