Top 5 reasons the new Library catalog is amazing

Let’s face it, the new Library catalog is amazing! With a slick way to log in, the ability to better manage your book lists and a smarter way to search, there’s a lot to talk about. But we’ve managed to narrow down the top 5 reasons the new Library catalog is amazing:

 5. Logging in is easier.
The first time you log in to the new catalog, you’ll see a registration page asking you to choose a username. Thereafter, you’ll be able to log into the catalog with your username and PIN. Or just use your library card number the old-school way.
You’ll also be able to log in right from the catalog homepage. One less mouse click, right?

4. Customizable searching lets you see items that are right here, right now.
One of the best new ways to search is to narrow results by availability, which will then only show items that are currently checked in.

3. A search box that speaks your language.
Search the catalog using your own words, not the library’s. Type Spanish DVDs or Lil Wayne CD, for example, and the catalog will take you to them in one easy step.
How else is the catalog search box smarter?  Search results ranked by relevancy prevent search overload. Try searching for Twilight in the new catalog to see what we mean.

2. Awesome book list management.
Keep up with what you’ve read, seen, or heard (or want to) with My Collections and My Lists. My Collections is the ‘everything list’ and shows what you’ve rated, reviewed, or tagged. With My Lists, you can create book lists on any genre or topic that interests you. Check out Top 10 Teen Romances and Best Picture Books for Children About Space.

1. Option to keep track of recently returned books
You asked for it—we listened! You now have the option to view all items you’ve recently returned. The Recently Returned feature can also be turned on (and off) in Account Settings > Privacy. If you enable this feature, you’ll be able to keep track of returned items for one year.

If you haven’t used the new catalog yet, try it today!  It’s still being tested, so it may run a little slow, but we promise it will only get faster.  And if you have any questions, be sure to check out the FAQs.
