Honk! Fest! West!

This year the Fourth Annual Honk Fest West, a free three day community supported music festival, will be taking place on May 13th-15th. I luckily stumbled upon this event last year due to a friend of mine creating the logo for the event.  I attended the Georgetown location and it was a blast! There was music everywhere you turned…every block, every nook, street, and sidewalk! You could hear the sounds of drums, trombones, tambourines, and cymbals….clanging and crashing and creating a vibration in your soul. People were dancing and jumping with huge smiles on their faces enjoying the revelry.

Here are a couple items in our collection to get you ready!

Circus Contraption, won’t be featured at Honk Fest, but it is a local Seattle circus and vaudeville troupe that got its start in 1998. They play original music with old school acts that generally cater to a more mature audience. The library has four of their albums in the collection. Take a listen!

Orkestar Zirkonium, who will be in attendance at this year’s Honk Fest, is fourteen-member brass-and-drum ensemble based in Seattle. Their members come from a plethora of groups, such as, Circus Contraption, the Infernal Noise Brigade, and the Fremont Philharmonic.

This event is not only a great opportunity to hear amazing music by musicians near and far, but also explore neighborhoods and businesses that also need our support to grow and thrive. Georgetown was a wonderment of eclectic shops and amazing eateries. They had visits from traveling food trucks, such as, Maximus Minimus and Skillet, which just happened to be my first food truck experience. To this day I still dream about Skillet’s lemongrass pulled pork sandwich with sea salted frites!
