Exercise your mind!

University of Washington in bloomDo you ever find yourself missing your old college days of taking interesting classes and listening to thought-provoking professors? Or have you had to wake up extra early to beat all the other students to register for that most wanted professor? I remember my favorite professor who taught literary analysis in the evening. He was older and usually forgot what he was just talking about, but his enthusiasm for the subject kept me wide awake. And though it took me most of the quarter to finally understand what he was trying to teach, the final comprehension made it that much more memorable and appreciative of the subject.

You can watch Professor Michael Sandel lecture on philosophy in Harvard’s most popular and influential class in Justice: What’s the Right Thing to Do. He holds the title as most popular class lecturer ever at Harvard. Or, if you are a fan of Alexander McCall Smith of the best-selling series, Ladies #1 Detective Agency, listen to Smith lecture on ethics in Creating Humans: Ethical Questions Where Reproduction and Science Collide. The Library owns the Modern Scholar series where you can learn from professors around the nation lecture about religion, law, philosophy, science, mythology, history, and more.

Also, check out our new addition to the Library website:  Universal Class is a website that offers over 500 non-credited courses taught by teachers on every possible subject. If you ever wanted to take a class that was of interest to you, but never got the chance, this is your opportunity. There is a course of interest for everybody!
