Memorial Day is right around the corner, and you know what that means – Summer music festival season has begun in the Pacific NW! This weekend (May 25-28), Seattle music lovers can head on down to Seattle Center for the 41st annual Northwest Folklife Festival, which features the folk music traditions of many cultures, performed by mostly local artists. Or they can travel further south to the Gorge for the Sasquatch Music Festival, where they’ll hear hundreds of national and local acts on the cutting edge of rock, pop, hip-hop and other genres.
Excited to go check out some live music but can’t decide which acts to see? Check out their CDS from The Seattle Public Library before you go! The Library has CDs by dozens of Folklife & Sasquatch artists in our catalog. We’ve made it super-easy for you to find them by tagging them “2012 folklife music festival” (for Folklife) or “2012 sasquatch music festival” (for Sasquatch). Just click on the links above and you’ll see a list of the most recent CDs by these artists.
Sadly, I can’t go to either festival because I’m working that weekend. But if I could go to Sasquatch this year, I’d try to go see everyone on this list of my top 20 acts from the 2012 line-up. Check it out, and then tell us in the comments who you’re most excited to see at either festival (or both!) this year. And stay tuned for more Shelf Talk posts on local music festivals this summer!
