She Makes Art!

A rich mix of artwork greets us this fall when Seattle Art Museum presents Elles: Women Artists from the Centre Pompidou, an international survey of works by groundbreaking artists.  Not to be missed, too, are installations and exhibits of pioneering artists from SAM’s own collections that will be on view in Elles: SAM– Singular Works by Seminal Women Artists. Topping off this visual feast is Elles: Seattle, a city-wide celebration of women artists hosted by partnering organizations and your Seattle Public Library is one of them.

Come see our display highlighting women artists on the 8th floor of the Central Library.  Best yet, check out a biography about an artist, learn about the important contributions of women to the arts and you just might find inspiration for an artistic journey of your own! Three sparkling new resource lists have been, especially, created to assist you in understanding and appreciating the achievements of women in the world of art. These titles are, artfully, yours to enjoy and explore as the autumnal muse descends upon our fair city and turns its trees into gold.  See for yourself!

SHE MAKES ART: The Lives of Women Artists Resource List focuses on biographies, autobiographies and exhibitions by artists included in the SAM exhibit.  Pacific Northwest artists and other noted artists are, also, included on a list that turns one’s gaze towards Joan Mitchell:  Lady Painter: a Life, laughs along with Lynda Barry:  Girlhood through the Looking Glass and focuses on the iconic portrayals of Shirin Neshat.

HER HISTORIC MARK: Women Artists in a World of Art Resource List explores women’s contributions to the history of art. The imprint of women can be seen in, In Wonderland: the Surrealist Adventures of Women Artists in Mexico and the United States, Bauhaus Women: Art, Handicraft, Design and contemplated in Daughters of India: Art and Identity and Creating their Own Image: the History of African-American Women Artists.

A TRUE HUE: Insight & Inspiration for Artists Resource List is for anyone seeking to connect or reconnect with their inner muse. Try Living the Creative Life:  Ideas and Inspiration for Working Artists,  then move on to On Becoming an Artist:  Reinventing Yourself through Mindful Creativity and get ready Inside the Creative Studio: Inspiration and Ideas for Your Art and Craft Space.

Print copies are, also, available for the asking.   Call 206-386-4636 or use our Ask-a-Librarian service to request them.
