For the love of llamas

Have you noticed all the recent books* starring llamas? In case you’ve missed out, here’s a list for the whole family:

llama of deathLlama of Death – the third installment in the Gunn Zoo Mysteries series by Betty Webb – features Alejandro, a grumpy llama who loves children. When a dead man is found in Alejandro’s pen, zookeeper Teddy Bently investigates. Small town shenanigans, hidden secrets and a sneak peek into zoo life keep this one interesting.

Llamas under fire! Seriously though – who would want to shoot at the llamas on Laughing Llama Farm? When harassment turns deadly in Silence of the Llamas, yarn shop owner Maggie Messina and her knitting group have a long list of suspects. This diverting fifth entry in the Black Sheep Knitting series by Anne Canadeo also includes bonus recipes and knitting ideas.

Is Your Mama a Llama? by Deborha Guarino finds Lloyd the baby llama asking each of his friends “Is your mama a llama?” in this fun rhyming story. Detailed illustrations and a singsong rhythm make this a great choice for sharing.

llamaAnna Dewdney has many books in her Llama Llama series, including Llama Llama Red Pajama and Llama Llama Misses Mama. Super fun rhymes and galloping rhythms pair with brightly colored and highly expressive illustrations make these a must for sharing. They may just help your own little llama work through life’s traumas.

*Ok, perhaps llamas are only as popular as all the other animals, but I love them extra.
