We all know that there are seasons for every sport, even if they have started to blur a bit (I swear that basketball and hockey seasons used to be over by April, once upon a time). But with sports-themed romances, the season never ends!
In Jaci Burton’s Play-by-Play series she manages to make every single sport she covers turn red hot, no matter what the season. The first two books in this series, The Perfect Play and Changing the Game, steal a couple of bases in the great American game of baseball. Burton has also managed to turn up the heat in hockey (Taking a Shot), march down the gridiron in football (Playing to Win) and win hearts in NASCAR in One Sweet Ride.
One of the sports that Burton has missed is mixed-martial arts. MMA seems a surprising choice for contemporary romance, but it turns out to be a terrific way to introduce alpha bad-boy heroes into a contemporary romance setting! Lori Foster has a great series that introduces both the sport, and the romance within the sport. Her series starring the SBC Fighters begins with Causing Havoc. The most recent title is Back in Black.
And for those NASCAR fans out there, in addition to Jaci Burton’s aforementioned book, there are whole fleets of books devoted to auto racing romance enthusiasts. Erin McCarthy’s Fast Track series starts with Flat-Out Sexy, and only gets faster (and hotter) as it goes around the track. The latest book roaring out of the turn for this series is Jacked Up.
