With the holiday season coming to its end, I’m sure we’re all feeling a bit over-socialized. Parties, gatherings, reunions… And now a new year is coming on, and we all have a bit of thinking to do – a little planning and little resolution-making. Time to take a little “me time” and get, well, deep. Here are three albums to help you do that.
Chelsea Wolfe, Unknown Rooms: A Collection Of Acoustic Songs
A little bit goth and a little bit folk, Wolfe is a good companion for these artfully tarnished winter days. On this album, she delivers her customary darkness in a way that will get you wanting to drive for miles under gray, cloudy skies – perhaps out to the mountains, maybe even to a little cabin secluded in the woods, where you can get properly introspective.
Perfume Genius, Put Your Back N 2 It
There is something so perfect, so delicate about the cool minimalism of Mike Hadreas’s music. This, coupled with the simultaneously disarming and comforting raw honesty of his words and singing, makes it the perfect album to take a solitary walk with when it’s beginning to get dark and everything is still.
Matthew E. White, Big Inner
Mr. White and his beard are good company for an evening by the fire. If you offer an ear, he’ll repay you with warm drinks (see: “Hot Toddies”) and lots and lots of love. This album invites you to stay in, chill out, and have a groovy time.
