Being stuck at home with the flu is the best excuse to spend some quality time vegging out. Here are a few TV series that I’d binge watch right now if I were under the weather:
With all the buzz about the new series, bone up on The Smoking Man and The Lone Gunmen. For a list of must see episodes that don’t require knowledge of the big story arcs, check out this Vanity Fair article by Kumail Nanjiani.
I missed this series the first time around and just seem to keep hearing about it from some of my favorite podcasters like Jason Mantzoukas of How Did This Get Made. I finally had to check it out. It features a mother daughter relationship we can all be inspired by (and get down with over the holidays.)
They say laughter is the best medicine and it doesn’t get any better or more absurd than Arrested Development. Come on!
I’m not crafty in the slightest, which is why I like to watch other people make things. Best viewed with a partner so you can yell at the judges together and debate the merits of various looks.
Anything David Attenborough
Let Sir David soothe you with his BBC voice. You can fade in and out on the couch to his narration of any one of his series or specials. If you like bugs, start with Life in the Undergrowth.
Travel through time and deep space aboard Red Dwarf with Lister, his dead crew-mate’s hologram, and Cat, the fabulous feline humanoid. A warmhearted sci-fi spoof, Red Dwarf is a cult favorite from BBC not to be missed, if that’s your jam.
The Goldbergs
The Wonder Years for anyone who grew up in the ’80s. Narrated by Patton Oswalt, my favorite part might be the actual clips from the creator’s home videos that inspired each episode. Oh, and the cringe-worthy fashion.
Cartoon Network’s first miniseries, this show is hard to categorize. Creepy, funny episodes that evoke the Brothers Grimm and classic cartoons. I defy you to watch this and not get the tune to ‘Potatoes and Molasses‘ stuck in your head!
For the eleven year old boy in all of us. Adventure Time is a sweet and weird show about the heroic deeds of best buds Jake and Finn and all the wonderful characters in the Land of Ooo. Some have called this the best coming of age story of our time.
We all have different ideas about what’s comforting. Let Deadwood help you appreciate how good we have it, when the only remedy for a cold was a slug of whiskey. Actually…that doesn’t sound too bad.
