In just a few more days, Star Wars Episode VII will be available to watch in theaters. I am watching the marathon of previous Star Wars movies down at the Cinerama in downtown Seattle, and I will probably watch Episode VII at the Pacific Science Center on the big IMAX screen. Maybe this will be your first Star Wars movie in the theater. Maybe you never watched the other movies. Maybe you are introducing Star Wars to your little ones. Luckily for us all, there are many different levels of material for all ages to explain and complement the movies.
For Episode I: The Phantom Menace
First, there is a picture book version for the littlest ones, written by Courtney Carbone. Slightly older readers may want to try the Lego easy reader version written by Hannah Dolan, or maybe you’d like the graphic novel version. How about the novelization by Terry Brooks in eBook format? Or you could try Star Wars: the Phantom Menace: the Expanded Visual Dictionary by David West Reynolds.
For Episode II: Attack of the Clones
For Attack of the Clones, the picture book was done by Christopher Nicholas and Elizabeth Dowsett put out the Lego easy reader version. You can enjoy the graphic novel version or the movie novelization by R.A. Salvatore, and for a closer look at the vehicles in the movie, you may want to pick up Incredible Cross-Sections by Curtis Saxton.
For Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
Geof Smith did the picture book and Elizabeth Dowsett returned to do the Lego adaptation. There’s also the graphic novel adaption, and the movie novelization was done by one of my favorite authors, Matthew Woodring Stover.
There’s also the Star Wars Complete Locations book to give you an expanded look at the entire universe. Of course, you may just want to watch the movies, and the Library has come through for you with that, too! We have the Blu-Ray + DVD combo pack of all three prequel trilogy movies available to put on hold.
