October sees a new releases by big name authors as well as a selection of debuts.
10/3: The Dark Lake by Sarah Bailey – Detective Sergeant Gemma Woodstock investigates the murder of a former high school classmate, digging into a long buried puzzle that threatens to expose Gemma’s own secrets.

10/3: Fresh Complaint by Jeffrey Eugenides – A collection of short stories from the author of Middlesex and The Virgin Suicides presents characters in the midst of various personal and national emergencies.
10/3: Her Body and Other Parties by Carmen Maria Machado – A debut short story collection that blends psychological realism with science fiction, comedy with horror, fantasy and fabulism. Longlisted for the 2017 National Book Award.
10/3: Dogs at the Perimeter by Madeleine Thien – In present-day Montreal Janie searches for a missing friend and is pulled back into buried memories of life in Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge. Originally published in Canada in 2011, this is the first US printing.
10/10: The Rules of Magic by Alice Hoffman – In this prequel to Practical Magic, readers learn the background of sisters Franny, Jet, and their brother Vincent.
