Bus Reads for February

Here are my February bus reads:

California Dreamin’ by Penelope Bagieu

A look at the life of Mama Cass before she was Mama Cass (of The Mamas and the Papas). I loved it. Beautifully illustrated, and Mama Cass has been a fascination to me; she also reminds me a bit of my mom.

Marrow Island by Alexis M. Smith

This takes place on a fictional island chain located in the Pacific Northwest, reminiscent of the San Juan Islands. The imagery was spot on and that’s what initially drew me to this novel. Lucie, the main character, grew up on Orwell Island, while her father worked at a refinery on Marrow Island, but after a terrible earthquake causes destruction and death she leaves that life behind. She heads back as an adult to Orwell after inheriting her family home and then to Marrow to visit an old friend living with a colony rehabilitating the island. Secrets are uncovered and it will take all the strength Lucie has not to lose herself.

  1. I read Marrow Island – very enjoyable, indeed! I will have to check out California Dreamin – sounds like something I would enjoy. I just finished Sarah’s Key by Tatiana de Rosnay – Whew! Very good, but heavy, especially in the beginning. I am reading Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep now. It’s okay so far. We will see!

  2. I gotta try that ‘Marrow Island’ one, it sounds interesting! Currently I am reading ‘Lost Boy’ by Christina Henry but I am 3/4 of the way through and need a new book! Thanks for sharing!
