Avengers Spoiler Alert: Andy Serkis is playing WHO?

Ms. Marvel, White Wolf, Mantis, Drax, Falcon, Peter Dinklage as Pip the Troll!… Just when you thought the burgeoning cast of characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe couldn’t get any more crowded, Hollywood Insider has gained access to leaked scripts for an as-yet-untitled Avengers movie due out in April 2020 that reveal a veritable avalanche of new characters, and a stunning new merger of beloved comics franchises.

So who will be joining forces with the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy? The X-men? The Justice League? The answer is even more surprising. The newest additions to the MCU hail from the vast alternate  universe of Hanna-Barbera.

The 2020 Avengers movie (together with its projected 2021 sequel) will include motion capture CGI performances by Andy Serkis as Magilla Gorilla, Duane Johnson and Paul Giamatti as Lippy the Lion and Hardy Har Har, respectively, Charlize Theron as Muttley, Patton Oswalt and Bencio Del Toro as Augie Doggie and Doggie Daddy, and Sir Ian McKellen as Snagglepuss. These CGI performances will be rounded out with live action portrayals by Maggie and Jake Gyllenhaal as Wonder Twins, and Sean Penn as Touché Turtle. Now if only they could get Eddie Murphy signed back on as Hong Kong Phooey, but we guess that ship has sailed.

We can expect Hanna-Barbera teasers in the second Infinity War film due in May 2019, but rumor has it that sharp eyed audiences may spot a clever allusion in this year’s Avengers movie as well. It is a big gamble, but promising enough that the creative team over at DC Extended Universe is already following suit: in next year’s Wonder Woman sequel, the arch villainy of Elena Anaya’s nefarious Doctor Poison will give place to the machinations of Ewan McGregor’s Doctor Shrinker, last seen on the 1976 Saturday morning staple, The Krofft Supershow. Also in development for 2020, a Zack Snyder project destined to be DC’s long awaited rejoinder to Guardians of the Galaxy, Far Out Space Nuts, starring Liam and Luke Hemsworth.
