Opposing Viewpoints in Context is a database free to SPL patrons with a library card. The goal of this resource is to encourage critical thinking and issue awareness by providing opposing views on current social issues. The website is well designed and tailored for broad use. Students, elementary through graduate school, teachers and professional researchers will appreciate its well thought out features. Anyone can enter a topic or choose from a list. Articles are color coded for intended audience, delineating five categories from elementary through college. Key words are generated from your search, making further exploration simple. Students writing papers will appreciate choosing in which format they’d like to site their sources: MLA, APA and Chicago reference styles. Teachers can post documents seamlessly to their Google classroom, enabling students stuck at home during coronavirus closures easy access to high quality materials. All users can easily send documents to their google drive, sorting and saving them for later.
Opposing Viewpoints can be found on the SPL website under A-Z resources, here.
Tutorials for its use can be found here.
With tens of thousands of articles, including audio formats, what’s not to love about being at home?
