#BookBingoNW2020: Uplifting

What better way to announce Book Bingo 2020 then with a teaser square?! Not to mention a square that is much needed. Here are a few books to get you started on completing your Uplifting square! And keep an eye out for the full downloadable card in early May.

Seattle Walk Report | Sasquatch BooksWe have to start with the talented Susanna Ryan, who made our amazing Book Bingo card this year! If you haven’t had the chance to check out her comic the Seattle Walk Report on Instagram, you can get your fix with the book in print and on Overdrive. Walk through Seattle without leaving your house and see all the quirky and interesting sights the city has to offer from your own living room. Want more? Check out our podcast featuring Ryan–hear a reading as well as a Q & A session with Paul Constant from Seattle Review of Books.

The LidoWhenever I’m asked for a sweet read my go-to is always The Lido by Libby Page. It’s a book that just makes you feel all sorts of happy vibes. When a lido, an outdoor swimming pool, is slated for demolition, Kate, a young reporter, is tasked with interviewing the oldest user of the lido, 86-year-old Rosemary. As Kate learns about the lido’s history, Rosemary and its patrons, and the larger community, she starts to come out of her shell to create a community she didn’t realize she was craving.

The Best Cook in the World: Tales from My Momma's Table: Bragg ...Rick Bragg has one of those voices –whether reading or listening to on audiobook, he pulls you into the story. In The Best Cook in the World, Bragg gives us a beautifully written memoir on the history of his family as told through the meals his mother has cooked. “She measures in “dabs” and “smidgens” and “tads” and “you know, hon, just some” (goodreads). This reminded me of my own mom, who, whenever I ask for a recipe, uses those same words. Honestly, what’s more filling for the soul then a book about food?
