Vegetarian Cooking with Flipster and eCookbooks

Whether you are busier than ever or have found yourself with more time than you ever thought possible, you still need to eat! If you are interested in adding more vegetables to your diet, want to try meatless Mondays, or are just tired of your same old standards, the library has many great digital vegetarian and vegan cooking resources. With your library card, you can access not only electronic cookbooks but excellent cooking magazines using Flipster. Flipster, which is also available as an app, allows you to browse and download full-color, interactive versions of your favorite magazines. There’s no waiting and no limit to the number of downloaded magazines you can have.

Here are a few publications to get you started:

VegNews is a magazine dedicated to all things plant-based. Featuring recipes, interviews, and food reviews – Veg News is sure to inspire you. The current edition (Spring 2020) has recipes for dishes such as a veganized Classic Bolognese and Strawberry Rhubarb Cheesecake bars.

Allrecipes isn’t exclusively vegetarian or vegan but each issue includes recipes that are. The magazine focuses on seasonal dishes and even has a meal-planning section. The most recent issue (April/May 2020) features recipes for Spicy Black Bean and Corn Burgers and Peanut Butter Cupcakes.

Saveur also covers a variety of diets but includes vegetarian and vegan recipes. A magazine that celebrates both home cooking and food writing, you’ll be certain to find something delicious in its pages. In the most recent issue (Winter 2019) you’ll find recipes for Tofu and Lettuce Miso Soup in addition to Roasted Mushrooms with Chile-Lemon Oil.

Interested in eCookbooks? Short on time? Try Vegetarian Dinner’s in the Oven: One-Pan Vegetarian and Vegan Recipes by Rukmini Iyer. With recipes organized by cooking time, you can have dinner ready in 30 min or less!

Need to please many palates? Try The Adaptable Feast: Satisfying Meals for the Vegetarians, Vegans, and Omnivores at your Table by Ivy Manning or Dinner for Everyone: 100 Iconic Dishes Made 3 Ways – Easy, Vegan, or Perfect for Company by Mark Bittman.

Unfortunately, none of these resources will do your dishes for you. However, no matter your skill level, you can find a something to inspire you to cook a plant-based meal
