Hygge (pronounced hue-gah) is a Danish word that describes “coziness and contentment.” With winter beginning and the stress of COVID-19, this is the perfect time to try to foster some hygge. Here are a few films to help you attain your own coziness and contentment:
Monsieur Hulot, Jacques Tati’s beloved clown, goes on holiday at a seaside resort where he causes one gently humorous slapstick disaster after another. The first entry in the Hulot series.
Martin, a respected chef, struggles with losing his sense of taste. His three adult daughters, Maribel, Leticia, and Carmen, live with him but dislike his new love interest while dealing with their own romantic tribulations. Thankfully weekly Sunday dinners manage to bring everyone together in a joyous conclusion to an endearing family drama.
A widower leaves Beijing with his granddaughter and pet bird to visit his childhood home in this heartwarming family drama. “A gentle tale … [and] very sweet family drama.” – Andy Webster, New York Times
An upbeat comedy about looking for love, thinking of romance, and finding yourself. Amelia is a 30-year-old looking for her first boyfriend, and even with the help of her eccentric boss, her overbearing parents, and her best friend, her luck seems to be running out. With her nose buried in a book, she finds romance in a stranger who has left notes in the margins and soon finds herself entranced.
Based on the world-famous Clue board game, this hilarious cult classic stars Tim Curry, Madeline Kahn, and Christopher Lloyd. When a group of apparent strangers gather together in a remote manor, murder and hijinks occur. Everyone’s a suspect in this cozy mystery romp.
