World Wide Knit in Public Day

World Wide Knit in Public Day is June 10th!

While perusing the shelves at Central Library, I came across Barbara Levine’s photography book People Knitting and realized that World Wide Knit in Public Day is tomorrow, Saturday, June 10th! I hope some of our latest knitting books inspire you to get out and knit in public places.

If you’re planning to visit any of our beautiful national parks this summer, Nancy Bate has you covered for a unique souvenir with her pattern book Knitting the National Parks. Our very own Mount Rainier pattern is a lovely colorwork beanie, while the Olympic National Park beanie showcases beautiful lace that echoes our evergreen rainforest.

Knitstrips, created by Alice Ormsbee Beltran and Karen Kim Mar, is the first ever graphic novel knitting book. This utterly unique book collects 22 new knitting patterns, how-to’s and advice into a colorful graphic novel format for a visually engaging, one-of-a-kind read. This title is also available as a downloadable graphic novel via OverDrive.

Known for bold, use-every-scrap designs and wildly popular on social media, Danish designer Lӕrke Bagger is making a huge splash in the knitting community. Dubbed Europe’s coolest knitter, Close Knit collects 15 fashion-forward knitting patterns and features 45 techniques for beginners and experienced knitters alike.

In Knitting for Radical Self-Care, Brandi Cheyenne Harper wraps you in a warm hug of encouragement no matter where you are in your knitting life, whether you are just starting out and wondering why your stitches are all over the place in size, or if you can kick out a professional-looking sweater in two weeks. Across 10 patterns inspired by radical women of color, Harper encourages you to make time for yourself and honor who you are as a creative person while sharing personal insights and inspiration.

Nordic designer Ida Wirak Trettevik takes you through a year’s worth of knitting in her new book A Knitter’s Year, which features simple yet beautiful designs perfect for every season, including summer-weight tees and tanks for knitting right now.

To see all of our latest knitting books, search “knitting” by subject in the library’s catalog. You can add filters to your search such as publication date, audience (adult, kids, etc.), format (ebook, physical book, etc.) and content (for fiction, there are tons of great knitting cozy mysteries out there! For non-fiction, you can find great patterns and how-to books).
