I love reading books about books. Even better? When they are unputdownable mysteries or thrillers! Here are some of my favorites:
The Writing Retreat – When Alex is given the opportunity to participate in a month-long writing retreat hosted by the famous horror writer Roza Vallo, she accepts the offer despite the fact that her ex-best friend is also attending. But things start to feel increasingly off at the mansion, including troubling behavior from their host Roza. Then, one of the writers disappears.
Magpie Murders – When Alan Conway, a bestselling crime writer, submits his new manuscript to his editor, Susan, she assumes it’s just another book. But when Susan is told that Alan has unexpectedly passed away, she discovers details in his manuscript that reveal secrets related to his death.
The Woman in the Library – When a scream erupts at the Boston Public Library, four strangers who were in the reading room at the time are told not to leave. The four start talking and building friendships with one another. They all have a reason for being there that day–but is one of them a murderer?
The Library Book – This non-fiction book tells the story of April 29,1986 when the Los Angeles Public Library experienced a fire that burned for several hours, destroying 400,000 books and damaging hundreds of thousands more. Author Susan Orlean dissects the mystery behind the fire. Was it intentional, and if so, who did it?
